Appeal to Authority

It only just occurred to me, this comic being from 1969, that the Mr Wilson they are referring to is Harold Wilson, the British Prime Minister of the time.

Perishing skepticism

I have a little series of of eight Perishers cartoons on the theme of skepticism and belief.
To kick things off here are two for today.
I'll post the rest over the next week.

Who does God pray to?

Indeed. Many people have questioned why a supreme being has any needs at all. Why did he create the universe and everything? Was he lonely? Are we his fishtank?

All praise to Morris Dodd & Dennis Collins.
The Perishers were drawn for the Daily Mirror newspaper (In the UK) in the 1970's. These are from collection No. 22 1979 which contains the cartoons that appeared in the Scottish editions of the Sunday Mirror.

God doesn't deal in great hairy feet

When I was young, at my parents house there were some collections of 'The Perishers' cartoons. My father had bought them because, as an illustrator he admired the work of Dennis Collins, the artist. The gags were scripted by Maurice Dodd.

In a fit of nostalgia I've bought a few of the albums on eBay. Many of the strips I remember, but I had completely forgotten the strips that concern religious matters, as maisie and her brother Baby Grumpling discuss church and God.

So, violating all manner of copyright, I'm scanning them and putting some of them up here. Click on the image to view it full size.
